Does CSDB offer services to students with hearing or vision disabilities who are not enrolled at CSDB?

Does CSDB offer program consultation and assessment services to assist public schools in developing appropriate services for students with hearing and/or vision losses who attend school in their home school district?

What services does CSDB offer during the summer months?

I live in a rural area of Colorado and our school district has not been able to provide some specialized services for my child, for example, counseling services. Can CSDB help my child?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Does CSDB have a sports program? CSDB is a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). 

In the fall, we offer football and volleyball at the middle school (MS) and high school (HS) levels.  In the winter, CSDB participates in MS and HS basketball and wrestling.  In the spring, students compete in field and track at the MS/HS levels.

Who provides transportation to and from CSDB?

If the home school district supports placement of the student at CSDB, the home school district is responsible for the transportation.  If the home school district does not support placement, it becomes a parent option placement and the parents are responsible for transportation.  For a fee, CSDB coordinates weekly transportation to and from Denver for students who reside during the week at the school. Those students are provided transportation to and from a central location via charter bus.  

Do I need to pay to send my child to CSDB?

CSDB is a State Operated Program and all Colorado children who meet the enrollment criteria can attend the school without any charge to school districts or families.  The possible exceptions are for transportation and lunches.  CSDB does offer free and reduced lunches based on Federal guidelines.

What are the enrollment guidelines for CSDB?

There are four primary enrollment guidelines, which include: 1) Student who is between the ages of 3 – 21 and has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which indicates he/she meets the eligibility criteria for being either visually impaired or hearing impaired.  2) The Student has a functional/cognitive level at 40% of age equivalent or higher.  3) The student is not a danger to themselves or others.  4) The student does not require 1:1 adult supervision within CSDB’s environment.

Who do I contact if I am interested in discussing enrollment at CSDB?

Contact the special education department within your home school district, and the Director of Special Education at CSDB.

What curriculum does CSDB follow?

CSDB has adopted the Colorado State Standards and follows a curriculum that allows all students to work toward the state standards.  As in other school settings, CSDB students are required to take the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP).


If the student with a hearing impairment uses speech, is it appropriate for the student to attend CSDB?

Yes.  CSDB follows the communication plan for each student that is developed as part of the IEP process. CSDB is a signing environment, so all students who speak are also expected to sign. 

What do most CSDB graduates do after completing school?

Over 70% of students who graduate from CSDB have successfully completed their Post School Education and Post School Work objective as identified within their IEP.  CSDB has graduates that have successfully attended and graduated from 4 year colleges, community colleges, trade schools, as well as become competitively employed in the area of their interest.

Can a student enroll at CSDB after meeting credit requirements within their home school district?

Yes.  Students can enroll in CSDB’s Bridges to Life transition program as long as they have not yet been issued a diploma from their home district.

Can CSDB students participate in mainstream classes?

Yes.  CSDB has a partnership with Colorado Springs School District 11 to allow our students to participate in mainstream classes that are appropriate to meet their needs. Transportation to and from the mainstreamed classes, as well as any required classroom support (e.g. interpreters, Braille transcription) is provided by CSDB.

How is CSDB financed?

CSDB is primarily financed by the state of Colorado through the general fund Long Bill and the Public School Finance Act (per pupil operating revenue).  Federal grants, donations, and earned income are supplemental sources of revenue.

 

 

 

Does CSDB provide American Sign Language (ASL) classes/Do you know where I can take ASL classes?

Yes. CSDB offers beginner and  intermediate sign classes for community members and parents. Registration information about the classes will be on the CSDB website when a new series of classes is offered.

No, but some agencies that do provide community interpreting are:

How do I learn about CSDB Employment Opportunities?

•CSDB Job Postings are available on the CSDB website, at www.csdb.org  (click on the “Employment” button at the bottom of the homepage).  Information about benefits, substitutes, applications, etc. is also available from this site.

There are several ways to obtain a State of Colorado Employment Application:

I previously submitted an application for a position at CSDB.  Can the previous application be used for a different job posting?

No.  Interested persons must submit an application for each individual job posting.  Applicants are encouraged to keep a copy of their application materials for future reference as needed.

 

Does CSDB offer services to students with hearing or vision disabilities who are not enrolled at CSDB?

Yes.  A variety of services to support students who have vision and/or hearing disabilities are provided through CSDB’s Outreach Programs and services department.

 

Does CSDB offer program consultation and assessment services to assist public schools in developing appropriate services for students with hearing and/or vision losses who attend school in their home school district?

Yes.  For a fee, CSDB staff will provide an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) requested by the student’s public school district.

 


What services does CSDB offer during the summer months?

Each year, CSDB offers a variety of opportunities for educational staff, parents, and students to attend programs and trainings on the CSDB campus.  For more information and the summer schedule of activities, contact the Outreach Department.

CSDB contracts with many school districts, Boards of Cooperation Education Services (BOCES) and charter schools to provide some specialized services.
